Physical & Chemical Properties
Discover the distinctive attributes of this colorless, nonflammable gas. Despite its innocuous appearance, it is toxic, irritating, and possesses a smothering effect. Its strong hygroscopic nature causes it to absorb moisture from the air, forming hydrochloric acid, a substance known for its formidable corrosiveness. Stored as a liquefied gas in cylinders, it maintains a constant pressure of 3-6MPa, which fluctuates with temperature.
Hydrogen chloride demonstrates remarkable solubility with both inorganic and organic compounds. Inorganic compounds like tin chloride, phosphorus trioxide, and phosphorus bromide mix well, as do organic compounds such as paraffin, ethanol, ether, acetaldehyde, ketones, acids, esters, and nitrites. Additional reactions can ensue, showcasing its versatility.
In its pure liquid form, hydrogen chloride remains inert with most metals. However, it reacts with alkali metals and other metals such as aluminum, manganese, iron, copper, tin, lead, and zinc, forming a protective chloride layer. In the presence of water, it transforms metals into metal chlorides while releasing hydrogen gas.
Use & Storage Guidelines
Ensure optimal storage conditions for hydrogen chloride cylinders by securing a ventilated, dry room away from direct sunlight. Avoid underground trenches or hidden passages. Prohibit open flames and proximity to heat sources. Cylinders should stand vertically with caps securely fastened to prevent tipping.
During use, attach the cylinder valve's exhaust nozzle to the production apparatus. Preventing gas leaks is critical. Maintain an ambient working temperature between -20°C and 40°C.
Avoid sunlight exposure and maintain a safe distance of at least 10 meters from open flames.
Do not deplete the gas completely; maintain a residual pressure of no less than 0.5MPa in the cylinder.
For intermittent systems, initially use high-purity nitrogen to purge the system, followed by hydrogen chloride to expel nitrogen, enabling normal operations. Post-production, utilize hydrogen chloride within the nitrogen-purged system to curb corrosion. After use, promptly close the cylinder valve, disconnect from the system, clean the valve components, and secure the cap.
Utilize only dedicated cylinders, as valve replacements must be performed by us. Should the bottle valve incur any damage, contact our company for replacement. Never repurpose hydrogen chloride cylinders for other gases.
Guard against oil contamination on both the cylinder body and valve.
If the cylinder exhaust rate is high, crystallization on the cylinder and pipeline is expected. Avoid using hot water to manage this; instead, employ a specialized gas supply device when gas flow exceeds 2m3/h. We provide pertinent air supply solutions.
Should doubts about cylinder reliability arise, conduct immediate testing. Adhere to a two-year safety inspection period, and do not use cylinders beyond this timeframe. Submit cylinders to us for maintenance after one year of usage.
Encourage user units to engage workers and managers in learning hydrogen chloride safety technical specifications, understanding potential hazards, and acquiring knowledge in first aid and emergency procedures.
