Application

1. Methylation reagent.
The methyl group (CH3) of monochloromethane can be transferred to other molecules through substitution reactions. It is widely used in the production of methyl chlorosilanes (a key raw material for organic silicon materials), methyl cellulose (adhesive and thickener), and tetramethyl lead (an anti-knock agent for gasoline, but the usage has decreased). 
2. Organic synthetic raw materials 
The production of organic silicon polymer compounds (such as silicone rubber and silicone resin) accounts for over 80% of the global consumption of monochloromethane. 
Synthesize pesticides, medicines (such as hydrocortisone), fragrances and quaternary ammonium compounds. 
3. Solvent and Refrigerant 
Used as a low-boiling-point solvent in the production of isobutyl rubber. 
Historically, it was used as a refrigerant due to its low boiling point (-24.2℃), but its modern applications are relatively rare. 
4. Other Applications 
Local anesthetic (used in small amounts).
